If you are looking for a recipe on how to make easy spring rolls at home, then you are going to love this recipe.
Spring rolls are made from thin dough, filled with either vegetables, chicken, or seafood, and then deep-fried. They are popular in many parts of Asia.
They are one of my favorite dishes and I love serving them at gatherings or when hosting friends.
The good thing about this dish is that you can use whatever filling you like, I guarantee you will love them.
Ingredients In These Spring Rolls
The two main ingredients for these spring rolls are the wrappers and the filling.
This dish is usually served as a snack, I also like serving it as a side dish or as a starter.
The following are the ingredients used to make this dish;
Spring Roll Wrappers. I used store-bought.
Cooking oil. Divided, for deep frying and filling.
Garlic. 2 cloves crushed into a paste.
Fresh coriander. 1 tablespoon crushed into a paste.
Onion. 1 small sized
Pork Mince. 200 grams
Cabbage. 1 cup Shredded
Carrots. 1/2 cup cut into thin strips.
Glass noodles. Optional
Black pepper
Salt
Cornstarch. Mix with a little bit of water to make a paste for sealing the rolls.
What Other Ingredients Can Be Used For The Filling?
There are many different versions of spring rolls made in various countries.
In this recipe, I used ground pork, cabbage, carrots, and glass noodles for the filling.
How you make your spring rolls depends on your preference and whatever ingredients you have available.
You can easily make filling for spring rolls using vegetables like cabbage, mushrooms, bean sprouts carrots, spring onions, and bell peppers.
Some recipes also use, eggs, shrimp, chicken, and even other kinds of ground or shredded meat.
Believe it or not, other spring roll recipes also use sweet filling, these recipes use fillings like strawberries, blueberries, bananas, and more.
Tips For Making The Best Spring Rolls
Make your filling doesn’t have any liquid, this prevents sogging and makes them crispy.
Do not overcrowd the rolls when deep frying. This also prevents them from getting soggy.
Using hot oil when deep frying makes them more crispy and keeps them from absorbing excess oil.
How To Make The Filling
In a large saucepan or skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of cooking oil.
Saute coriander paste, garlic paste, and onion for a minute.
Add pork mince, and cook for about 5 minutes. Add chopped cabbage, carrots, and glass noodles, and cook for a minute. Season with black pepper and salt, and set aside to cool.
HOW TO FOLD A SPRING ROLL
You can use spring roll wrappers that are frozen or refrigerated and ready to use.
The important thing when wrapping spring rolls is making sure that they’re tight, and not overstuffed.
1. Place the spring roll wrapper on a flat surface so that a corner is facing toward you in a diamond-shaped position.
2. Use about two tablespoons of the filling per spring roll, and spoon it about 2 inches from the corner that is closest to you.
3. Roll up halfway, fold sides in, and brush on the sides with corn starch to seal. then finish rolling.
How To Make Crispy Spring Rolls
Start by heating oil in a large pan or skillet over high heat. Add enough cooking oil to cover the spring rolls.
Add the spring rolls ( do not overcrowd them)and cook for about 1-2 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy.
Serve with a dipping sauce of your choice.
