How To Make Easy Tomato Pasta

Pasta in tomato sauce is an easy and popular dish. This recipe is made by cooking pasta and tossing it with tomato sauce. 
The sauce for the tomato pasta can be made with either canned tomatoes or fresh tomatoes.

Tomato pasta is a regular weeknight meal in my house, it’s quick easy, and delicious.

What Are The Ingredients For This Tomato Pasta

The Good thing about this tomato pasta is that you can make it even when you are running low on ingredients.
The main Ingredients for this dish are tomatoes, pasta, and cooking oil.

Since tomatoes are generally available year around, you can make this dish using fresh tomato sauce any time of year.

The following are the ingredients used for this dish:

Spaghetti. You can use whatever pasta you’ve got on hand 
Tinned Tomatoes. You can also use fresh tomatoes 
Cooking Oil. I like using olive oil for this dish. You can use the cooking oil of your choice.
Onion. I like chopping my onion evenly 
Brown sugar. The pinch of sugar makes all the difference, it balances the tomato acidity. 
Black pepper. You can also use white pepper 
Salt. Seasoning with the right amount of salt is essential for this dish

Tips For Making The Best Tomato Pasta

Tomato sauce

You can prepare the tomato sauce in advance and keep it in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
You’ll need to place it in an airtight glass container or you can freeze the sauce.

Cooking the tomatoes longer helps enrich the taste of the tomato sauce. 

Add some tomato paste for a rich color.

Some canned tomatoes are more acidic than others, adding a pinch of sugar helps balance the flavors and acidity. 

What Other Ingredients Can I Add?

When it comes to pasta, you can use whatever pasta you’ve got on hand (in this recipe I used spaghetti)  

The tomato sauce for this recipe works well for other dishes as well (like shakshuka or potato soup recipe)

You could add some baby spinach or other vegetables towards the end of cooking.

Using Italian seasoning like dried oregano or basil, it’s a great way to enhance the flavors. Fresh herbs are good too if you happen to have some. 

How To Make Tomato Pasta

In a large saucepan or skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of cooking oil, add garlic and onion, and sauté for about a minute, stirring constantly.

Add a can of tomatoes, cover with a lid and cook for 3 minutes. Add tomato paste and a teaspoon of brown sugar and cook for about a minute.

Season the sauce with salt & pepper as needed.  

Meanwhile (once the tomato sauce starts to cook), boil a large, salted pot of water for your pasta and cook it al dente according to package instructions.

Drain the pasta and toss it with the tomato sauce, you can add a bit of pasta water if the sauce is too thick.

Serve immediately. You can add some parmesan if you want a cheesy flavor for your dish.
